Finnish company Valmet Automotive considers a possibility of creating car assembling plant in Leningrad region with a capacity of 50 thousand units per year. On its plant in Finland company assembles cars Porsche. Business FM : Who out of car producers could be interested in this kind of production site? Vector Market Research : In case this plant will work for the Russian market only, then only production of Porsche cars will not be sufficient — last year sales of this car brand amounted to 2,3 thousand units in Russia. The whole premium cars segment amounts to about 90 thousand units, including BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Audi, Lexus, Infinity etc. We do not believe that more than half of the market will switch towards production locally. In addition to that, since a number of premium car brands assemble some of their models in Kaliningrad, to make a better offer in St. Petersburg will not be easy due to taxation specifics of Kaliningrad region.
